Dialogue and Research.  Through the Transnational Women's Summit, we provoke Dialogue and spaces for transformation with women's organizations and leaders—political decision-makers and women committed to forging change in their communities. We foster feminist participatory action research to identify community struggles and organizing, strengthening capacities and skills development to foster a powerful women's movement.

FIRST TRANSNATIONAL WOMEN'S SUMMIT FOR EQUALITY, INCLUSION, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE, OCTOBER 11-15, 2021

Latinas en Poder organized the First Transnational Women's Summit in the United States, Mesoamerica, and the Caribbean, concerned about the growing deepening of inequalities, structural and gender-based violence, and the little funding received by women's organizations in the world to change the root causes of the problems they live. The Avina Foundation and the United States Agency for Development, USAID, sponsored our First Summit.

We aim to understand why women and girls migrate from our region. To contribute to transforming perceptions, educating, and seeking collective and sororal solutions. In this way, we can inform public policies, programs, and funding with a feminist and gender equality perspective so that women can live in peace and abundance in their ancestral territories.

Modality of the Summit

The meeting coincided in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, the United States, and Puerto Rico. Our objective was to learn first-hand about the state of women, young people, and girls who live in communities in vulnerable situations and with women's movements to join efforts in the search for solutions and informing policy from the transnational context.

We manage the participation of women's organizations, feminists, decision-makers, women in philanthropy, and international organizations in the United States. The Summit took place during October 11-15, 2021.

Modes of Participation

We know that not all of us could move to Mesoamerica or the Caribbean. Therefore, we created a hybrid modality, in-person and online social networks, so that the Summit would be accessible to the majority. We exchange experiences and experiences of the week's activities and trace a route for cooperation and sisterhood.
